Data sources and limitations
Understand data coverage, currency, map limits and why Enviro-D outputs need human review.
Enviro-D depends on available data. Some data is national, some is state-based, some is local, and some is only available for particular themes or regions.
Why coverage can vary
Coverage can vary because:
- different jurisdictions publish different datasets;
- dataset names and definitions are not always consistent;
- some datasets are updated more often than others;
- some risks are not mapped publicly;
- a site boundary may not match the real-world area being assessed;
- data can be incomplete, delayed, withdrawn or corrected by the source agency.
What Enviro-D records
Enviro-D is designed to help record the site, map context, sections checked and report output. This can support a due-diligence file note or evidence pack.
It does not guarantee that every relevant risk has been captured.
How to use limitations well
When a matter is important, record:
- the site boundary used;
- the date the screen was run;
- the sections checked;
- any visible map prompts;
- any missing or uncertain data;
- the follow-up action or reviewer.
When to seek advice
Seek specialist advice when a mapped issue could affect contract terms, design, approval, works, finance, insurance, valuation, disclosure, safety or statutory obligations.
The right adviser may be a planner, lawyer, environmental consultant, engineer, surveyor, insurer, lender, council officer, specialist technical adviser or Traditional Owner engagement specialist.
